IRREVERSIBLE ENTANGLEMENTS

 ••
The quintet Irreversible Entanglements proposes a formula well rooted in the tradition of Black Music - from Gil Scott-Heron to Amiri Baraka - where music supports and intertwines a spoken word focused on pressing topical issues linked to the discrimination of the African American community. A protest music that uses the language of the New Thing from an unprecedented perspective, where the free jazz tradition of the 60s and 70s incorporates the most current and innovative elements of today's music, often veering towards Afrofuturist tints. The result is an original and exciting union between tradition and avant-garde, made even more effective by the acting of Camae Ayewa, aka Moor Mother, who is confirmed as one of the most original and powerfully creative personalities in today's music.

The group was born almost by chance in 2015, when the trio of Neuringer, Ayewa and Stewart and the duo of Navarro and Holmes participate in "Musicians Against Police Brutality", an event organized in protest for the killing of Akai Gurley by of the New York police, the latest in an increasingly frequent series of episodes of violence against the African American community. The musical and human understanding, but also the sharing of the same ideals of civil commitment, led the five musicians to come together in 2017 to record the first album under the name Irreversible Entanglements, which immediately enjoyed great success with audiences and critics.
The band has since released two more albums, "Who Sent you?" in 2020 and “Open The Gates” in 2021, in which the musicians managed to maintain the urgency and strong impact of the first album, with memorable themes and relentless grooves, enriching the formula with an electronic component used with great intelligence. In the meantime the group has embarked on an impressive live activity, with frequent and long tours that have led them to perform all over the world, consecrating them as one of the most significant and influential ensembles on the new creative music scene.

This special project, for the first time in Italy and exclusively for the Art Center, will be a unique opportunity to get to know the different souls that make up Irreversible Entanglements up close.
On 8 and 9 February the members of the group will propose their personal projects in reduced formations, from solo to duo, to return to reunite as a quintet on the final evening of 10 February.
We will listen to the solo for voice and live electronics by Moor Mother, now the absolute protagonist of the most innovative electronic scene; Keir Neuringer's solo saxophone, hypnotic and adventurous; the solo of electric bass and effects by Luke Stewart, in the name of experimentation without a network; the unpredictable Afro-Caribbean avant-jazz, between futurism and folklore, by Aquiles Navarro and Tcheser Holmes.
