Free jazz collective plays for Black liberation with poetic power
Free the jazz. Not just from the narrow confines of sheet music and harmonic structures. But also as a genuine liberation project.
Irreversible Entanglements formed in 2015 for a protest event called Musicians Against Police Brutality after the police killing of Caribbean immigrant Akai Gurley.
Their goal was to connect the Afrofuturism poetry of Moor Mother with an unorthodox, improvised take on free jazz as an engine for Black liberation.
