IRREVERSIBLE ENTANGLEMENTS
Everything revolves around the message and urgent current affairs in this five-piece band around poet and spoken word artist Moor Mother. The groundbreaking and merciless collective Irreversible Entanglements has five members, whose artistic visions are widely praised. Luke Stewart, the High Priest on bass; Aquiles Navarro, the electric universe in human form on trumpet; Keir Neuringer, the cosmologist with siren on sax; Tcheser Holmes, the griot and mythmaker on drums; and Camae Ayewa on vocals, the 'Moor Mother' with a spiritual pen.
The group is an extension of the spiritual traditions of jazz from the 1950s - those of Charles Mingus, Alice Coltrane and Sun Ra. These influences are mixed with abrasive electronics and futuristic poetry. A journey past the 'postcolonial rubble'. The American avant-jazz group was founded in Brooklyn, New York, especially for the Musicians Against Police Brutality protest meeting following the police brutality-related death of Akai Gurley. Music that cuts and scrapes, and at the same time sparks something new.
